The Institute for Multilingual Education (IME) is a boutique educational consultancy firm dedicated to meeting the diverse needs of language programs at every level. We are committed to creating a multilingual society by establishing well-developed, research-based K-12 dual language immersion and world language programs across the United States. We pride ourselves on providing comprehensive consultancy services that enhance dual language immersion and world language initiatives.

IME partners with schools and districts to design customized language programs that promote academic excellence, linguistic proficiency, and cultural understanding. Our team of experts draws on the latest research and best practices to ensure programs are sustainable, effective, and aligned with the diverse needs of each community.

Our offerings include but are not limited to: language program design and implementation, professional development for educators and administrators, tailored parent education programs, evaluation of language programs, and the creation of foundational documents such as mission and vision statements and content allocation plans. We handle every and all elements of creating, implementing, sustaining, and evaluating K-12 dual language immersion and world language programs.

We also specialize in curriculum development and alignment for K-12 elementary and secondary language programs, as well as assessment development to ensure effective student learning outcomes. With a strong focus on research-based practices, IME is committed to supporting the successful establishment and growth of K-12 dual language immersion and world language programs, fostering multilingualism and cultural competence in students.

About Our Founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Dr. Angela Palmieri

Dr. Angela Palmieri is a bilingual education researcher, professor, reading specialist, and consultant with over twenty-five years of experience as a scholar-practitioner in dual language and bilingual education. As the CEO and founder of the Institute for Multilingual Education, Dr. Palmieri draws from her extensive expertise to help schools and districts develop high-quality, research-based K-12 language programs.

Originally from Caracas, Venezuela, Dr. Palmieri was raised trilingual and tricultural, speaking Italian, Spanish, and English, which fueled her passion for multilingual education. She is also the founding teacher of two K-5 Spanish dual language programs in California and spent twenty-one years teaching grades K-6th in Los Angeles, Detroit, and San Francisco in both Spanish dual language immersion and English-medium settings.

With an educational doctorate (Ed.D.) from the Educational Leadership Program at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), Dr. Palmieri has dedicated her career to advancing multilingualism in schools, fostering environments where students thrive academically and culturally through dual language immersion and world language programs. Her doctoral research explored teacher perceptions of sociocultural competence in dual language education, and she is a contributing author in The Handbook of Dual Language Bilingual Education (2024). In 2016, Dr. Palmieri received the Fulbright Distinguished Award in Teaching, allowing her to travel to New Zealand and research the cultural pedagogical practices of Māori-medium schools. Dr. Palmieri’s leadership and vision continue to inspire the advancement of multilingual education nationwide.

Dr. Angela Palmieri is a Fulbright English Language Specialist under the U.S. Department of State, where she contributes her expertise in bilingual and multilingual education to international projects aimed at enhancing English learner programs worldwide. This prestigious role allows Dr. Palmieri to collaborate with educators and policymakers across the globe, applying her research and practice in dual language immersion and sociocultural competence to support language learners and promote educational equity. Her extensive background spans a twenty-one year career teaching in both English and Spanish immersion settings, equipping her with the expertise to guide schools and districts in implementing research-based, high-quality language programs. She is a world traveler and has lived in multiple countries throughout her life, including Italy, Venezuela, Canada, and New Zealand. Dr. Palmieri's vision for a multilingual society is the driving force behind the Institute for Multilingual Education, (IME), where she leads a team committed to transforming education and preparing students to excel in a globalized world.
